Ausbau und Erneuerung der Bahnlinie Ringsted-Fehmarn

As part of the Fehmarn Belt tunnel project, the 110 km railway line between Ringsted and the Fehmarn-link in Rødby will undergo a comprehensive upgrade. The project includes raising the speed limit to 200 km/h and expansion from single to double track between Vordingborg and Rødby. Existing railway stations will be rebuilt and a new station will be built in Holeby. All of this in order to ensure a quick and efficient transportation of cargo and passengers to Germany.

Improved network of transportation across Europe

The Ringsted-Fehmarn project is an important step towards realising the dream of a permanent, direct connection between Scandinavia and central Europe.

“The section between Ringsted and Fehmarn Belt constitutes an important part of the future major transportation corridor to Germany. This upgrade will ensure an efficient connection for cargo transportation as well as significantly improved passenger transport to the region”, Tonni Christiansen, Director for Ramboll’s rail division, explains.

Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA)

Between 2010 and 2013 Ramboll worked with issues for the EIA and subsequent programme phase for the Zealand part of the Ringsted-Fehmarn link. The EIA concerned the raised speed limit and subsequent straightening of track curves as well as the electrification of the tracks.

Tendering a range of technical disciplines

Working closely with NIRAS, Ramboll is preparing tender material for general and turnkey contracts for the project. The general contract concerns track and high-voltage installations while the turnkey contract concerns bridges, stations and civil engineering work.

“Ringsted-Fehmarn is a multi-disciplinary project which spans a range of Ramboll’s competences. The project team is divided into sub-projects: bridges, civil works, tracks, stations, high-voltage, The Masnedsund Bridge, new Kong Frederik IX’s Bridge and fairway”, Karsten Nielsen, Senior Project Director, explains.

In addition to the tender material Ramboll and NIRAS will assist in negotiations with contractors as well as general project follow-up.
